Junior High Latin (grades 7th-9th)

Junior High Latin provides students with a clear introduction to Latin grammar and reading that aims to delight and cultivate within them a wonder of, and appreciation for, language. Students study the five noun declensions and four verb conjugations; the present, imperfect, and future tenses; other parts of speech (adjectives, prepositions, and adverbs); and learn how many English words derive from Latin vocabulary. They will learn how to apply those skills through studying and translating adapted, original Latin paragraphs featuring the Roman historian Livy.  Furthermore, students will learn about the history and culture of ancient Rome. This is a gentle introduction to Latin that will assure your students future success with foreign language studies.

Required Textbook: Latin Alive! Book 1

Placement: Introductory Latin course; no prior Latin instruction required; also recommended for students with some introductory Latin instruction ready to embark on a formal study of the language.
