Marcela Best

Marcela Best

Marcela was born in Santa Marta, Colombia, a beautiful town in the Caribbean which was the first Spanish settlement in the Americas, and is currently one of the largest ports in the continent. She was Classically Educated in an all girls school and graduated high school when she was 17 years old. She moved to the United States in 2001 to attend college and met the love of her life just 3 short weeks after she arrived. She has been married to her husband, Jeremy, for 16 years. They have 5 beautiful children; Laya, Samuel, Matthew, Joseph and Noah.

She attended Travis Technical Institute and earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Later, she attended Polk Community College for an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She currently lives on a 40 acre ranch in Georgia and has homeschooled her children for the past 8 years. As a native Spanish speaker, she has taught Spanish at several co-ops. In her spare time, she enjoys reading non-fiction, photography, weightlifting, and researching and curating her own classical curriculum for her students.

Parent Reviews

I would like to recommend Marcela Best as a Spanish teacher for your program. She has been a teacher assistant at Summit Academy from August 2015 to March 2019. Ms. Best served multiple times in several of my Spanish classes, ranging from Pre-School to High School Spanish 2. She has always been pleasure to work with.

During her years at Summit Academy, she went above and beyond her responsibilities as a teacher assistant. She was always efficient and very helpful. She has excellent organization and critical thinking skills. She will be a great asset to your classroom.

Teachers like Ms. Best are truly a rarity. Not only being a native Spanish speaker, she also understands grammar well and has first-hand experience in learning a foreign language as a young student. In addition to these great qualifications, she is very creative and handles different grade/age levels very well.

In the 2018-2019 school year, she helped high school students in guided conversation practice. She also worked with elementary and middle school students, also exceeding expectations. In previous years, she did an excellent job helping with the oral exams for my high school studentsShe provided very detailed assessment, including vocabulary and grammar usage as well as listening comprehension. She also encouraged them to improvise for a more natural conversation as opposed to one scripted in the book.  Norka Stover

I was a co-teacher with Marcela Best, and my son was her student in two different types of homeschool co-op classes, so I’ve seen her teach in several different settings.  Marcela is the kind of teacher who brings passion, preparation, and excellence to whatever topic she teaches. She is well versed in the standard curriculum, but she also brings it alive with her own personal experience. She engages students with classroom discussion, and she challenges them to have a spirit of excellence as well. I highly recommend her!  Monica Thomas, Free Chapel Homeschool Co-op, Gainesville, Ga.
