Ancient World History will cover the history of the world from the beginning of written history to the fall of Rome. Students will be assigned multiple chapters of textbook reading each week, as well as terms to identify/define, short-answer questions, brief essay questions, and mapwork. This class will be dynamic and interactive, with in-class discussion. The study of the ancient world is a fascinating look at a distant time that will inform, inspire and illuminate our present age. While it may seem far removed, much of our modern society is informed by it.
Each weekly class will include both review and preview of weekly assignments, including guided discussions and brief essay presentations.
Why study Ancient History? History gives us great insight into society across time as well as how our modern world is shaped and informed by it. Ideas such as class divisions, government, economic surpluses, religion and geography, all relate back in some way to ancient civilization. Students will also gain a greater understanding of the lost and miserable pagan world and its desperate need for a Savior.
This course will tell the stories of people around the world, from the rise of Europe to the complex Middle East to the coast of Imperial China. Each countries’ specific characteristics will be explored while also recognizing and exploring how each continent interacts and influences the other. A perfect course for those interested in History, Theology, Literature, Politics, Diplomacy, the Military, and more. A must-have course for high school students as they prepare to launch into an increasingly complex world.
Required Materials: History of the Ancient World: From the Earliest Accounts to the Fall of Rome, by Susan Wise Bauer, plus the Student Study Guide and Map Work (published by the Well-Trained Mind).
Full Year Course – 1 Credit: The class will be taught and graded by your True North Homeschool Academy teacher. The coursework your child will complete in this high school level course is equal to one credit hour which may be awarded by your homeschool upon completion of the course.
