Art – Level One
Art Level I is a beginner’s course for students with artistic interests. This Art class focuses on students with less experience with drawing, art techniques, and painting. Students will learn these concepts and skills. Recommended for middle school and high school-aged students and a prerequisite for Art Level 2*.
This course fosters art as both a physical skill set and communicative soft skill. Art is expressive in ways that words sometimes fail to be. Learning how to understand another person through the art they produce and to express moods, emotions, and experiences through art is a lifelong therapeutic, social, and self-care skill that will benefit a student throughout their lifetime.
Art Level One touches lightly on the art history of relevant artists and eras to each semester’s focal mediums and techniques. Students will create projects and pieces accordingly.
- Drawing skills
- Still Life
- Abstract Art
- Watercolor Painting
- Acrylic Painting
- Mixed Media
Art will meet twice a month on the first and third Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Central Time.
Students will have independent assignments between meetings.
Note to Parents: Art skills and styles vary widely between individuals even at a learning age. The goal, and therefore grading, of both Art Club levels, is not based on the idea that there is one singular bar that all students must reach, but rather on individual growth in skill sets and understanding in each student. The serene nature of Monet’s “Water Lilies” is not judged by the vivid motion of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”, nor Frida Kahlo’s rich Hispanic portrait work judged against Pablo Picasso’s abstract eye.
*Students of any age may test out of Art Level 1 and be placed in Level 2 on a case by case basis depended upon review of students available work and approval of the Instructor, BJ Pramann. Email her to discuss your child’s appropriate level if you have questions about where they should be placed.
