History of Rock and Roll

History of Rock and Roll will be a fun, musical jaunt through modern history! Students will  enjoy exploring how rock music began & evolved through the decades, as well as discover the artists and key players who defined the popular genres of their time, including:

  • Jazz
  • Rock
  • Pop
  • Punk
  • Psychedelia

Students will explore the business and cultural tends inherent in the music industry, as well as historical context of each style of music.. Students will be encouraged to think critically & independently as they analyze rock and roll music by participating in classroom discussions & completing assignments. Successful completion of this course earns students .5 credit in music, humanities or history.

PREREQUISITES for History of Rock and Roll: 

Successful completion of junior high level music or logic courses (Logic, Intro to Music Theory OR similar) OR private music instruction required.

REQUIRED TEXTS AND RESOURCES: There are no required textbooks for this course, but students will be required to listen to & watch musical acts and performances. Resources will be provided by the teacher.
