Description
Medieval Literature
In Medieval Literature, students will study the warrior epics of Old English, the Norman Conquest, Middle English, Robin Hood, and Chaucer. Of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t throw in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight a few riddles, and more. This Anglo-Saxon & British Literature class explores the writings from the 7th c and beyond.
We will touch on the linguistics of the English language, a bit of history (did the Norman Conquest actually happen?), the impact of the Church, as well as read and assess a multitude of Anglo-Saxon & Medieval British writings. Capping off the year students will be writing thier choice of epic or tale.
If you are ready for adventure, a bit of mischief, and an epic time, this class is for you.
Required Materials:
The following readings will be provided:
- Beowulf

- Sections of readings such as The Seafarer
