Spanish II follows Spanish 1. It is a rigorous, year-long class. It offers coursework equivalent to 1 foreign language credit for high school students and is recommended for students in grades 9-12. The prerequisites are Spanish 1 or prior knowledge of the Spanish language and Latin or English Grammar.
The class includes advanced grammar, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and listening, along with a cultural component and other skills needed for the high school and beyond students such as study skills, time management, technology usage, and more. The primary focus of this class is the verbal competence of the Spanish language.
Students will be graded on their vocabulary knowledge and class participation. There will be a high emphasis on the spoken component of the language and students should be prepared to reflect the expectation.
At the end of Spanish II, the student should be able to introduce themselves and answer more complex questions about the topics covered in class as well as provide extended biographical information verbally and in writing. The student should be able to have a sound accent while speaking and use correct expressions pertinent to the cultural background of all the Spanish-speaking countries. The student should be able to understand common spoken expressions that convey simple information and maintain a light conversation. At the end of this course, the student would have memorized well over 1100 words/phrases/sentences in Spanish for formal use of the Spanish language and have a sound understanding of the grammar.
