Speech & Debate

Speech and Debate is an introductory course that will expose students to the wonderful world of rhetoric, critical thinking, and communication! Students will learn about three styles of debate in addition to the various forms of individual public speaking events. This club/class will be an engaging blend of both speech and debate, rotating between the two subjects each week.  By the end of the semester, students will:
  • Be prepared to debate this year’s Lincoln Douglas debate topic for the STOA speech and debate league
  • Create a 10-minute Persuasive speech
  • Develop the skills and confidence to give an impromptu speech in any situation

This club is appropriate for all students, regardless of their comfort level with public speaking, and offers a fun, interactive, and practical approach to developing critical thinking and communication skills.
