U.S. Literature & Composition
U.S. Literature & Composition is a one-credit high school English course where students enjoy reading, writing, and discussing American works, going all the way back to Colonial Times. Students will learn to work with original documents from the Age of Reason and learn to write a judicial essay. This is an excellent course to further develop and hone student thinking and writing skills and will prepare them well for college and adult thinking, writing and resoning!
- Lost Tools of Writing, Level Two: Judicial Essay Student Workbook (published by Circe Institute)
- Eight literature novels (final list to be determined, but likely including): The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper; The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain; Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston; Our Town, by Thornton Wilder; To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee; The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck; A Separate Peace, by John Knowles.
Full Year Course – 1 Credit: The class will be taught and graded by your True North Homeschool Academy teacher. The coursework your child will complete in this high school level course is equal to one credit hour in Literature and one in composition which may be awarded by your homeschool upon completion of the course.
