Writing Skills 5: Modern World
Writing Skills 5: Modern World is designed for 5th through 8th graders. Offering a full year of instruction for students in grades 6–8, these lessons cover all nine IEW Units, teaching your students writing structure, stylistic techniques, vocabulary and more!
The world is at your fingertips! This theme-based writing curriculum allows students to experience world history through cultural literature and the study of famous people and events while learning to write with confidence and ease. Students will read fun and fascinating time-honored stories that teach, delight, and entertain. Our text will be the Institute for Excellence in Modern History World-themed curriculum, from which we will learn to write skillfully with the Structure and Style® writing method.
Our class time will be devoted to reading each week’s reading passage and then working together to implement specific writing styles. As we learn how to better our writing, each student will be responsible for writing regularly based on the content and style learned in class. Students will have the opportunity to read their own writing in class, as well as listen and appreciate their classmates’ writing. We will learn how to best critique each other’s work in a positive manner and how we can improve our writing by working together.
Writing Skills 5: Modern World will include English grammar instruction. This will be an important part of this class and students will solidify their understanding and usage of parts of speech, types of sentences, and much more!
This full-year course is best for students in 5th through 8th grade who have mastered writing simple sentences on their own. The text includes vocabulary cards, literature suggestions, and access to helpful PDF downloads. Elementary Writing is a fun and inspiring class that will give your students the skills they need for future writing success!
