High School English – Adapted for Struggling Learners (PP)

High School English – Adapted for Struggling Learners (PP)

Adapted High School English for struggling learners is designed with lower-level readers in mind. The textbook selected is respectful of the maturing mind and offers exposure to appropriate reading material at a 4th-5th grade level that nudges vocabulary higher, touches on literary analysis with exposure to topics such as metaphors, imagery, plot development, setting, and more.

This carefully selected textbook meets the learner where they are and brings them gently along the road to greater literacy.  Using themes such as Caring, Determination, and Clarity, your learner will be exposed to wonderful writing which focuses as much on their own personal character development as it does on reading skills.  Every page will be read together along with the educator who will provide context, redirection when needed, and offer explanations of vocabulary and content.

Offering 100% supported learning for unique students, this course will also provide grammar review, paragraph writing development for real-world writing skills such as “How To” paragraphs and paragraphs that tell a story and will further strengthen reading comprehension and vocabulary development

This course is designed to create a stress-free approach to academic learning.  Homework assignments will be brief and solely designed to support the learning in class.  Homework will be corrected together with the educator with an emphasis on growth, not grades.  There will be no tests, no essays, and no memorization required, but instead the occasional verbal evaluation with the educator.

Your learner will benefit from a seasoned special needs homeschool educator who will partner with you to provide support in any areas of concern.  The course is also appropriate for middle school students who can attend reasonably well in class.

Resources Required:

The teacher will provide grammar review worksheets throughout the year. Bundle this course with Adapted U.S. History for a robust year of learning and fun!

Full Year Course – 1 Credit: The class will be taught and graded by your True North Homeschool Academy teacher. The coursework your child will complete in this high school level course is equal to one credit hour which may be awarded by your homeschool upon completion of the course.
