Description
Photography & Digital Technology
Students will explore different genres of photography and hone their personal style to create compelling photos and to communicate through visual storytelling. This class is suited to beginning or advanced photographers; it is designed to be flexible for the student to work at their level as they explore and practice their photography skills.
Students will get a look at the entire photography process: planning, shooting, and editing, as well as a grasp of basic graphic design principles and photo presentation. They will complete a variety of projects, such as keeping a photo journal, participating in photography challenges, and creating a thematic photo book. The first semester surveys the fundamentals of photography. Students apply these concepts through weekly projects that explore different types of photography. The second semester will delve deeper into the technical side of photography and how it enhances visual artistry and storytelling.
By its end, not only will students have explored and honed their skills, but they will also have discussed photography’s use as one way to pursue the good, true and beautiful.
Alongside a camera, students will need access to Canva, a free graphic design program, and Photopea, a free photo editor with professional capabilities.
Supplementary readings, articles, and videos will be provided by the instructor.
